What's this about?
You can now type `/resume` in the Claude Code desktop app and pick any session started from the CLI; it continues in the app with the full conversation and context intact. Shipped alongside a faster CLI startup, more visibility into where tokens go, easier-to-see auto mode rules, and Remote Control fixes.
Why is "context intact" the hard part?
Because a session is not just a transcript. It is the transcript plus the working directory, the files read, the tool results, the compaction state and everything the model currently believes about your project. Resuming a conversation is easy; resuming *state* means the second surface has to reconstruct all of it faithfully, or you get an assistant that remembers the words but not the situation.
Why is it worth noticing?

- The direction of travel is one session, several surfaces — terminal, desktop, remote — rather than separate products.
- "More visibility into where your tokens go" is the same problem the community built third-party tools for two weeks ago.
- Mode and surface switches carry the handoff cost that the Handoff Tax paper measured; keeping state intact is what makes them cheap.
