What's this about?
Cursor's "Router" — the piece that decides which underlying model handles each request — keeps getting better by learning from millions of real in-product interactions each week, classifying tasks to lower latency and cost.
What exactly is a "model router"?
When a tool has several models available (fast/cheap vs. slow/smart), a router is the traffic cop that sends each request to the right one automatically, so you get a good answer without overpaying for easy tasks. It's the same idea as OpenAI making Sol the smart default — routing is becoming a product surface of its own.
Why it matters
Routing quality increasingly determines cost and speed for coding tools, and doing it from live usage data is a moat competitors can't easily copy.
