What's this about?
Anyone can use Google's portal to look for supported SynthID watermarks in content from Google and participating generators. Partners named include OpenAI, NVIDIA and Kakao, with Apple coming later.
What exactly is a watermark?
It is a machine-readable signal embedded during generation, designed to survive ordinary edits while remaining unobtrusive to people. Detection says a supported tool marked the content; no detection does not prove human authorship.

- Cross-company participation makes provenance more useful than a Google-only label.
- Users asked how robust marks remain after cropping, recompression and deliberate removal.
- The main limitation is coverage: older models and unsupported generators may leave no SynthID mark.
