Astra turns an image into a Blender scene

What's this about?

Simon Willison generated a Pluribus-themed Fabergé egg image with Images 2.5, then asked Astra through a Blender skill to build the scene. In 17m51s it produced a 7.2 MB model with 1.45 million triangles.

What exactly is a Blender skill?

It is a reusable set of instructions and tools that teaches a coding agent how to operate Blender, inspect results and save deliverables. The model supplies reasoning; Blender remains the deterministic 3D application.

Why is this worth noting?

The demo joins multimodal concepting, agentic tool use and a tangible editable artifact. Willison also released a browser viewer that loads `.blend` files from CORS or GitHub URLs, making the output easier to inspect.
