The design thinking behind Grok Bot

What's this about?

xAI published a design essay on Grok Bot: five primitives — Bots, Chats, Prompts, Tools, Artifacts — and a sidebar organized around persistent bots rather than a scroll of disposable chat history.

What exactly is the shift?

Chat interfaces treat every conversation as ephemeral; a bot-centric interface treats configured assistants as durable things you return to — contacts, not transcripts. Configuration, memory and history attach to the bot.

Why is this worth noting?

Every major AI product is circling the same conclusion (Claude's skills, ChatGPT's custom GPTs): naked chat doesn't scale with use. xAI publishing its primitives as a design essay is a bid to name the categories everyone converges on.
