Brockman's AGI claim vs ARC's disclaimer

What's this about?

The same day: OpenAI's president tells reporters he personally believes AGI has been achieved — "looking back, it may be this model" — while ARC Prize, whose benchmark Astra just saturated, writes explicitly: "we are not claiming that it is AGI."

What exactly is AGI?

Artificial general intelligence — human-level capability across domains, not just benchmarks. There's no agreed test; that's why one man's press-briefing opinion and one benchmark org's disclaimer can coexist about the same model on the same day.

Why is this worth noting?

The choreography matters: "personal belief" from a president at a briefing gets the AGI headline without committing the company (whose contracts and Microsoft relationship hinge on official AGI declarations). ARC's disclaimer is the immune response — the benchmark's own authors refusing the inference.
