Three ways of opting out

What's this about?

Three separate posts on the front page the same day: "I don't have a smartphone" (206 points), "I wanna live an NPC life" (194 points), and "I don't think I can stay in tech" (77 points).

Why group them?

Because the coincidence is the observation. Three different authors, three different framings — refusing a device, wanting a smaller life, leaving the industry — all reaching the front page on a day when two frontier labs shipped models. This audience is not uniformly enthusiastic about the thing it builds, and the mood shows up in aggregate more clearly than in any single post. The same cluster appeared last week with No AI Fridays and "good culture beats AI".

Why is it worth noticing?

477 points combined
  1. Grouped rather than given three entries because the pattern is the finding, not any individual argument.
  2. It is a leading indicator of hiring and retention that no survey captures.
  3. "I wanna live an NPC life" outscoring most of the day's AI news is the detail worth sitting with.
