What's this about?
"Reaching the point where lots of little decisions trading off small decreases in AI safety for real increases in AI utility make sense individually, but are all going together at the same time into a complex system we don't fully understand. Unclear whether risks compound or not."
Why is "individually sensible" the dangerous property?
Because it means there is no decision to point at. Background computer use is a real usability win for a small permission expansion. Looser cyber guardrails unblock legitimate defenders. Higher effort defaults produce better work. Each has a clear benefit and a small, bounded cost, and each would survive review on its own. The question is whether the costs add, multiply, or interact — and nobody is measuring the aggregate, because no one team owns it.

- Every item in today's AI Security section is one of those individually-sensible trades.
- "Unclear whether risks compound" is the honest position, and it is also an admission that nobody is tracking it.
- It is the systems-level version of the aligned-flaws argument above, applied to the industry rather than to one product.
