What's this about?
Martin von Zweigbergk, creator of the Jujutsu version control system, has joined ERSC.
What is Jujutsu?
A version control system that is Git-compatible on the wire but has a different model of how you work: no staging area, every change is automatically a commit you can revise, conflicts are recorded as first-class objects rather than blocking you, and history editing is the default rather than a dangerous operation. It has been the most credible attempt in years to improve on Git's interface without abandoning its ecosystem, and it has grown a devoted user base largely on the strength of one person's design taste.
Why is it worth noticing?

- Where a tool's primary designer works determines the tool's trajectory, which is why this draws 149 comments.
- Version control is infrastructure with a decades-long tail, so the succession question matters more than for most projects.
- A rare non-AI tooling story on a heavy AI day.
