Democratizing native audio-video generation at 2K resolution. 92 upvotes.
What does "native" audio-video mean?
Generating sound and picture together from one model, rather than producing video and then dubbing audio onto it. The difference shows up in synchronisation: footsteps landing with feet, speech matching lip movement, an impact sound at the frame of impact. Pipelines that generate separately and combine get these approximately right, and approximately right is immediately perceptible — desynchronisation is one of the things human perception is most sensitive to. Doing it natively means the model has one representation of the event.
Why is it worth noticing?
- It was top of the HuggingFace board when this digest's snapshot was taken.
- 2K native audio-video is a meaningful resolution and quality bar for a paper rather than a product.
- "Democratizing" in these titles usually means it runs on hardware people have, which is the claim to check.
