What's this about?
High-resolution image editing is increasingly needed in professional workflows, but diffusion-based models are largely stuck below 1K resolution because attention cost grows quadratically and memory becomes prohibitive. EDITBRIDGE (21 upvotes) targets faithful and efficient editing above that ceiling.
What exactly is the quadratic attention problem?
Attention lets every part of an image consider every other part, which is what makes these models coherent — the model knows a shadow on the left relates to a light source on the right. But the cost grows with the square of the number of image patches. Double the resolution and you have four times the patches, so roughly sixteen times the attention cost. That's why models that produce beautiful 512-pixel images cannot simply be pointed at a 4K photograph. It's the same scaling wall as long-context text, in two dimensions instead of one.
Why is this worth noticing?
- Professional use is where the resolution ceiling actually bites — a photographer or designer works at print resolution, and a model capped below 1K is a toy in that context.
- "Faithful" is doing real work in the title: the hard part of editing at high resolution isn't generating pixels, it's changing what was asked while leaving everything else untouched.
