Claude Code adds auto-continue on usage limits

What's this about?

Claude Code's desktop app now has a checkbox that automatically resumes your work where it left off once your usage limit resets, instead of requiring you to return and restart manually.

What exactly is a "usage limit reset"?

Subscription AI plans include a quota that refills on a schedule rather than an unlimited allowance. Hit it mid-task and the agent stops, which is most disruptive precisely when the work was going well — a long refactor abandoned halfway. The reset is when your quota refills. Automating the resume turns a hard stop into a pause.

Why is this worth noticing?

  1. The engagement is disproportionate to the feature, which tells you how often people hit limits mid-task and how much that interruption costs them.
  2. It quietly changes what work you'd attempt. If a long-running task can survive a quota boundary, tasks that outlast your quota become reasonable to start.
  3. It sits awkwardly beside the same week's blog post advising users to reduce token consumption — one message says use less, the other makes running out less painful.
